The Minister for Information and Communications Technology and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, has praised the National Resistance Movement (NRM) for maintaining what he described as the most structured and inclusive system for selecting party flagbearers at all levels of governance.

Speaking on NBS Frontline on Thursday, Baryomunsi noted that as Uganda approaches the 2026 general presidential and parliamentary elections, different political parties have adopted various mechanisms for choosing their representatives.

However, he emphasized that the NRM stands out for its well-established and institutionalized framework for producing flagbearers nationwide.

“The National Resistance Movement has produced flagbearers for practically every level of governance. While other political parties have their own internal arrangements, NRM remains unique in having a clear, structured, and institutionalized system for identifying and endorsing its candidates,” he said.

Baryomunsi explained that this system promotes internal democracy and ensures candidates emerge through a transparent, participatory process, strengthening the party’s grassroots presence and national cohesion.

Reflecting on 2025, he described it as an eventful year, citing key development milestones achieved by the ruling party and government.

He highlighted the Parish Development Model (PDM) as a transformative initiative aimed at lifting households out of subsistence livelihoods and accelerating socio-economic development.

“Beyond politics, 2025 has been a year of delivery. We have continued to implement transformative initiatives such as PDM, which is aimed at lifting households out of subsistence livelihoods and accelerating socio-economic development at the grassroots,” Baryomunsi said.

He reaffirmed the government’s focus on service delivery, national unity, and political stability, noting that these pillars remain central to the NRM’s agenda as the country prepares for upcoming elections.

According to Baryomunsi, the party’s structured approach to organization and governance has been instrumental in sustaining its leadership and advancing development programs across Uganda.
